January 12, 2006 at 2:52 pm in reply to: High memory with Formativ version 2 and Grpwise client 6.5.4 High memory on pc #5994
Thank you for your question.
We are not aware of any inherent problems in this area. To provide a meaningful reply, could you please provide more information about what you are seeing? For example (and the following is not exhaustive):
– We would need to see your config information for full version details, etc. From the main GroupWise menu, select Help | About Formativ. When the about box appears, select the configuration tab, then press the ‘copy to clipboard’ button. Paste the contents of the clipboard into a message to support@advansyscorp.com.
– How are you determining message usage levels on these machines?
– How does memory use compare to other machines running Formativ?
– Does the memory usuage reduce when GroupWise is shut down?
– Have you always noticed this, or is this a new observation? If new, what has changed on these computers?
– Does the increase in memory usage appear to be linked to a specific applet?
– Does memory use increase when GroupWise is started, or do you have to run an applet to see it increase?
– Does memory use remain low if you disable Formativ via the control panel?
Kind regards,

Thank you for your posting. The solution in question was designed to create ‘all day’ style items in calendars (holidays, etc).
While it is true all appointment times are the same, it is possible to define what those times are (on a global scale) by using the ‘Day Definition’ option of the importer.
If you need the ability to distribute dates where each appointment has a different start and end time, I would suggest you look at the ‘Enterprise Calendar Dates’ solution, which includes this feature.

Thank you for your post. We’ve never installed Creator on Citrix (or Terminal Services). We don’t list Citrix/Terminal Services as a supported platform. However, I know people are successfully deploying Runtime on Citrix. We don’t have any official guidelines or best practices documents in this regards, other than some specific information about the licensing system. I’ll contact you via direct email in this regard.
Creator uses a default path under ‘My Documents’ for applets. This would be the logical choice to override if you wanted to share a common applet location.
Individual user settings are stored in the Windows registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER. This shouldn’t be a problem on Citrix.
Generally speaking, while Creator on Citrix will probably work, I would suggest it might be better to install it on a workstation running one of the supported operating systems.

There may be a fancy way to do this with HTML layers, but I don’t know of a non-trivial approach. For example, it MAY be possible to overlay two tables, the underlying one including the header/footer images, while the top table is sized to ensure text is placed within the header/footer area. There may be more advanced HTML CSS features which could also facilitate it, although I’m not sure if you could do it without overlaying layers (z-order and absolute positioning). Here’s some sample HTML that may help:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <HTML><HEAD><TITLE></TITLE> <META http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html; charset=windows-1252"> <META content="MSHTML 6.00.2800.1400" name=GENERATOR></HEAD> <BODY style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; MARGIN: 0pt; FONT-FAMILY: Verdana"> <TABLE height="100%" cellSpacing=3 cellPadding=2 width="100%"> <TBODY> <TR> <TD vAlign=top> <DIV style="PADDING-BOTTOM: 5px; PADDING-TOP: 8px; TEXT-ALIGN: right" align=right><A style="BACKGROUND-POSITION: right top; BACKGROUND-IMAGE: url(http://www.novell.com/email/img/novell_logo_wh.gif); WIDTH: 100%; BACKGROUND-REPEAT: no-repeat; HEIGHT: 22px" href="http://www.novell.com"></A></DIV> <DIV style="BACKGROUND-IMAGE: url(http://www.novell.com/img/dotline_trans_horz.gif); PADDING-TOP: 1px; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #cc0000"></DIV> <DIV> <TABLE style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: Verdana" cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=5 width="100%"> <TBODY> <TR> <TD style="PADDING-TOP: 10px" vAlign=top align=left height=200> <TABLE style="Z-INDEX: -1; LEFT: 0px; POSITION: absolute" height="100%" cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=5 width="100%"> <TBODY> <TR> <TD style="FONT-WEIGHT: bold; FONT-SIZE: 140pt; COLOR: #ffe1e1; FONT-FAMILY: 'AvantGarde Md BT', Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" vAlign=center align=middle height="100%">G</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>Insert text here...</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE> <TABLE style="MARGIN-TOP: 30px" cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="100%"><TBODY> <TR> <TD vAlign=center align=middle><A style="PADDING-LEFT: 38px; FONT-WEIGHT: bold; FONT-SIZE: 9pt; BACKGROUND-IMAGE: url(http://www.novell.com/img/body/n_icon_requestinfo.gif); VERTICAL-ALIGN: text-bottom; COLOR: #cc0000; MARGIN-RIGHT: 20px; PADDING-TOP: 12px; BACKGROUND-REPEAT: no-repeat; FONT-FAMILY: Verdana; HEIGHT: 48px; TEXT-DECORATION: none" href="http://www.groupwise.com">GroupWise Home</A><A style="FONT-SIZE: 9pt; BACKGROUND-IMAGE: url(http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/oradesima/rightnav_coollogo_190.gif); VERTICAL-ALIGN: text-bottom; WIDTH: 190px; MARGIN-RIGHT: 20px; BACKGROUND-REPEAT: no-repeat; FONT-FAMILY: Verdana; HEIGHT: 65px; TEXT-DECORATION: none" href="http://www.gwmag.com"> </A><A style="PADDING-LEFT: 38px; FONT-WEIGHT: bold; FONT-SIZE: 9pt; BACKGROUND-IMAGE: url(http://www.novell.com/img/body/n_icon_promo.gif); VERTICAL-ALIGN: text-bottom; COLOR: #cc0000; PADDING-TOP: 12px; BACKGROUND-REPEAT: no-repeat; FONT-FAMILY: Verdana; HEIGHT: 48px; TEXT-DECORATION: none" href="http://www.novell.com/products/groupwise/partners/">Partner Products</A></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE> <DIV style="BACKGROUND-IMAGE: url(http://www.novell.com/img/dotline_trans_horz.gif); PADDING-TOP: 1px; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #cc0000"></DIV> <TABLE height="100%" cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="100%" bgColor=#f7f7f7> <TBODY> <TR> <TD style="PADDING-TOP: 10px" vAlign=top align=middle height=120><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 8pt; COLOR: #001ea8; FONT-FAMILY: Arial"><B>Novell Inc.</B><BR>1800 South Novell Place, Provo, Utah 84606<BR>Phone: 1-800-453-1267<BR>Web: <A href="http://www.novell.com">www.novell.com</A></SPAN></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE></DIV></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE></BODY></HTML>
In terms of ensuring the standard GroupWise signature is inserted in a particular position, the only way I know of to do this is to insert the same reply marker text that GroupWise uses to determine where a signature should be inserted. I think you enter a break, then ‘>>>’ (formatted using a white font so the text was invisible). GroupWise looks for this sequence when determining where to insert the signature. You’ll probably have to experiment to get this right.

The process should not have changed for 2.0.1. We’ll investigate this today and get back to you ASAP.

January 10, 2006 at 2:53 pm in reply to: Enterprise Caledar Dates: Cannot create Trusted Application #8834Thank you for the update. The error message reported above relates to the GroupWise Admin API, not the Trusted Application. However, given you referred to a trusted application error message, can I assume you saw a message at some point indicating the trusted application could not be created? If so, can I assume you now see neither message?
An inability to connect to the master mailbox normally means either the trusted application has not yet been created, has not synchronised throughout the GroupWise system, has been defined using incorrect options, or Post Office Connection settings have not been specified.
I would suggest you recreate the trusted application object and wait for it to synchronize throughout your GroupWise system. When you create the trusted application object ensure you don’t supply an IP address and port number. (A common mistake is to supply the IP address of the server hosting GroupWise – this is incorrect. The optional IP address associated with a trusted application is the address of the workstation from which the trusted application can be accessed from).
You should then ensure the Post Office in which the master mailbox is associated has connection properties associated with it. You can supply either the IP address of the POA serving the post office, or the path to the post office on disk.
Please let me know how you proceed.

We have received the applet and will take a look today.

As you mentioned the applet is only executed when the send button is pressed. The send event is unrelated to the new message arrival event. I don’t think DoEvents() will make a difference in this scenario.
I am at a loss to explain why you might see this behavior. I am aware of large numbers of users using applets integrated on send that have not reported this type of problem.
You mentioned your applet is ‘rather complex’ – what does it do? The only scenario I can think of is that your applet is somehow ‘hogging’ resources, slowing the main processing thread of the GroupWise client.
Unfortunately I suspect you’ll have to undertake a process of elimination. For example, what happens on these machines if you install a simple applet, integrated with the On Send event, but does nothing else? Does the problem still occur? If not, what action is your applet taking that might cause GroupWise to behave this way?
Please let me know how you proceed.

Hi L.P,
This sounds like it might be a bug in Novell’s Object API. You may want to report it to Novell via the Developernet Support Forum.
Advansys Support.
Utilities.Timer() using a Windows Timer object, which puts the thread from which it is called to ‘sleep’ for the specified time. Formativ runs in the same thread as the GroupWise client, so using a timer will also put GroupWise to sleep. (The GroupWise Query runs in it’s own thread). I suspect the errors you are seeing are a result of a threading/timing issue resulting from putting the main GroupWise thread to sleep while the query thread is running.
One solution (in theory) would be to run the query in a different thread and wait for it to return. You can’t do this in Formativ, but you could do it with a 4GL like VB, Delphi, C++, etc. However, Novell’s Object API documumentation indicates that free-threading (the ability to use any object created on any thread from any other thread) is not recommended. Our experience is that it should not be attempted at all. This means you can’t use a multi-threaded approach to solving this type of problem.
Unfortunately the only approach I can think of would be to not use a timer, and simply sit in a loop calling Utilities.DoEvents() to ensure the Windows message queue is processed while the query is being executed.
You may be able to obtain more information about using the Object API Find() and Query() objects from Novell, either directly or via the Developer forums they host.

We believe this error is caused by a defect in the viewer that occurs when the sent items folder of an archive is selected when the items in the folder are unavailable.
We are about to update the released installer with a slipstream build that resolves this issue.
As you have existing archives, you could also download the latest viewer from:
http://www.advansyscorp.com/beta/a2goview.zip
Extract the viewer into all copies of the _viewer subdirectories in your archive. If they have already been burnt to CD you will have to copy them to disk, replace the existing viewer, then burn a new set of CD’s.
Please let me know if this version of the viewer solves the problem.
