Yes, the problem is directly related to the encoding of space and [ ] characters in the filename.

The excel sheet reads in the names of the .fml files and then sets the the hyper link address to the file path. This works ok until the sheet is saved and the hyperlinks are encoded.

I have come up with a work around for the excel problem, however it is not as robust as I would like.

The reason I asked was I would like to create an e-mail register in excel and hyperlink to the relevant fml file. Excel encodes the ‘[‘ and ‘]’ characters when they are included in a link on save.
