We’ve created an applet so that when a user clicks on the Send button, an email classification screen pops-up. The user fills out info and then clicks OK to send the email. This adds meta-data at the end of the email showing Sender,, Dept. Code, Recipient, Subj., Date, Repository and Classification, …
If an email is replied to several times this meta-data is obviously replicated several times. Our users are complaining that when they print, all this meta data is printing too (killing alot of trees !). Any way to hide it so it does not print ? I didn’t create this applet so I’m not too familiar with Formativ.

Unfortunately, its not easy to skip specific information when you print.

It may be possible by rendering information (skip disclaimer details) then paste into Word/Notepad, etc and print from there, which will require significant modification to the applet.

Its always a good idea to avoid duplicate information in first place. We are not sure why the applet need to enter Sender, Recipients, subject, date, etc at the end of the message, where these information available in message?

Not sure why the want some of the same info in the meta-data that’s already in the header too. It does get pushed to out info. repository, so I guess they want it there for some reason.

If you were to “cut/paste” to Word/Notepad, wouldn’t you lose fonts, bolds, highlights, etc, … things like that ?

Yes, cut & paste to Word/notepad may lose fonts, etc.

Another thought, if the message in HTML format then each GroupWise message has the TEXT.htm file which store the HTML contents of the message. It could be possible to save the TEXT.htm file, render contents (i.e. remove disclaimer, etc) then open the TEXT.htm in a browser (i.e. Internet Explorer) then print. Also depend on whether disclaimer/meta data you want to skip from print, easy to identify (i.e. in a specific format).

As I said earlier, all these workaround will require significant changes to the applet. If you have in-house Visual Basic Scripting (VBS) programming experience then you can use the Formativ to modify the applet. Otherwise you need to contact our partners (http://advansyscorp.com/resellers_formativ.htm) for custom enhancement.

I would suggest looking into custom fields in GroupWise. You should be storing your meta data in custom fields and not in the message body where it will obviously will print.
