CurrentItem.To_(): String

How do you programmatically set the To_() property of CurrentItem to a string with periods in it.

ie. I want to place an e-mail address such as “John F. Doe” in the TO field of my message.
This address would already be defined in my address book.

Setting CurrentItem.To_ = “John F. Doe” results in the name being undeliverable and GW crosses it out.

Is there a way around this?
