      Hello,

Our attorney wants to know if there is a way to number the emails in the archive. Basically enumerated the emails for future reference.

      Thanks,

      Martin

        Thanks for your enquiry.

Could you describe how the enumerated emails might be used, please? We are not sure of the best answer to your question; it may help if we know how you intend to use the enumeration in practice. In addition, how might a watermark/stamp function as a kind of enumeration?

Each message has an ID that look like this: 7B20450A.Acme.AcmePO.100.3136169.1.16F3F.1

This value is stored as the name of each archived message file (in the data subfolder of the archive folder) and in its referencing index file.

An index file (eg. 00000001.xml) represents the items archived from a specific GroupWise folder. Index files are stored in the _metadata subfolder of the archive folder, and are referenced in mailbox.xml, which is an index of the GroupWise folders included in the archive.

What he wants to do is to put a visible and unique number stamp on each emailattachment so the attorneys can refer to them as “document 1” or “document 237” instead of “Mary’s email to Jim on the 14th 0f July”

          Thanks.

Thank you for the clarification, and sorry for the delay.

Probably there are many ways to do as you describe. There would need to be additional metadata which maps ‘document’ numbers to messages/attachments in the archive. The Viewer would need to have some way of rendering items to display the document number; perhaps literally a watermark (with email body text superimposed). However, the Viewer does not display the content of any attachment: this is dependent on the application associated with each type of attachment.

If you are interested in following this up, it would be a custom development job. Unfortunately we do not have development resources available at present; I suggest that you contact one of our custom development partners.
