Setting up a new machine for imaging with GW 6.5.1 SP1b client and Formativ runtime 1.6.07. GW client alone, no problem. Add latest Runtime. Open GW, client goes off the screen, top and bottom. Minimize GW client, then restore GW client, off the screen at top; select bottom of client to resize, pops in at 1/2 size, can then resize normally. Reopening repeats. Same results with 1.6.06. Uninstall Formative runtime, graphics sizing problem dissappears. PC is XP SP1. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Formativ config to follow.

I have seen this happen with beta versions of 6.5 SP1, but the problem seemed to ‘dissapear’ from my machine a few builds prior to the official SP1 release from Novell.

I’ll try to duplicate it in-house and report it Novell. Unfortunately, I suspect it’s going to be something Novell will have to fix. I’ll advise my finding via email and in this forum.

This happens for me as well in windows 2000SP4.

          Is there an awnser yet?

We have been looking into this issue. We have found one of our Windows 98 machines which still exhibits the problem and, at this stage, we don’t know why the problem ‘disappeared’ on a number of machines which exhibited the problem during GW 6.5 beta testing.

What we have found is that the problem appears to be related to the number of applets (with toolbar icons) and the GroupWise main toolbar settings. In our Win 98 machine with the problem, we can get it to ‘go away’ if the toolbar settings are set to:

            • Picture and selected text on the right; or
            • Picture only + Single row of buttons only.

The problem appears when we have Picture only + Multiple rows of buttons, if necessary.

To see or change your custom toolbar settings, right-mouse click the main toolbar and select customize toolbar.

We still don’t know why this problem only occurs under certain conditions. As it can be ‘avoided’ by changing the toolbar settings, it would appear to be a GW client problem. We suspect the same issue would occur if a standard C3PO included many icons on the main toolbar. Before we report the issue to Novell, we need to track it down and ensure it can be reproduced in a repeatable way.

For readers who have experienced this problem, please let us know if changing your main toolbar custom settings avoids the ‘incorrect GroupWise main dialog height’ problem.

Further experimentation revealed that GroupWise 6.5.2 beta4 does not solve the problem. However it appears that if you play around with the custom settings of the Item Context toolbar, and move it into another position and then back again, the problem appears to ‘go away’. Changing the settings of the toolbars back to the settings which caused the problem to appear originally, did not seem to make it come back again.

By moving the toolbars and changing the custom settings (don’t know which is the key factor at present), something must be eventually written to the mailbox account which prevents the problem from recurring. This is why the problem appears to happen on new accounts or GroupWise client installations, and can disappear without apparent reason.

We need to pin this one down in order to help Novell reproduce the problem and fix the underlying cause.

Many thanks first for the “fix” and for pursuing this. The GW client also seemd to have trouble retaining settings…I am monitoring it closely. Is there anything I can do on my end to help? We are rolling updated machianes almost daily, and I have units I can try fresh installs on, etc…

Thank you for continued feedback. The details of your experiences are helpful to us, and probably Novell too.

If we think of anything else to try, we will let you know.

                  Thanks again.

                    I have some further info.

This issue does not seem to have anything to do with the options when customising the toolbar.

It is the position of the tool bar.

Try moving the various toolbars up and down. You should see what I mean.

In fact I can cause the problem to occur by moving the item context toolbar around to some positions.

Basicaly with the problem occuring I resize the GW window then move the main toolbar (with the formative icons) to the bottom. Close GW. Open and move back to the top. Close GW. Problem goes away. (Untill you move some toolbars around again)

                    Hope this helps.

Thank you, this additional information does help. I was able to replicate the problem on my machine, which is running the 6.5.1 client, by moving the folder context toolbar to another position.

The additional information makes it easier to replicate the problem and to report it to Novell.

Novell have confirmed they can reproduce this issue and have confirmed it as a bug in the GroupWise client. They have allocated a defect number, and will notify us when a fix is available.

Thank you to all who helped track down this issue.

                        Regards,

Novell have not notified us of a fix for this issue (though as noted in an earlier post, it is logged in their defect database). We cannot predict when their Development team plans to resolve this.

We are still awaiting a notification from Novell.
