Can’t install Admin 1.6 – GW CLIENT dir is locked

Hi folks!

Under 1.5, Formativ Admin didn’t install any apps/DLLs to the GW Client directory – everything was placed on the local hard disk. In our office, we run the client from the network, which is a read-only drive for everyone. Wehn I attempt to install the 1.6 Admin to my station, now it’s trying to add a component to the GW Client directory. Is there any way to install the Admin mode files without R/W access to the GW Client directory? Thanks!

The 1.6 Admin installation installs the GroupWise trusted application DLL ‘GWTApp.dll’ to the client location.

Currently, there is no switch available in the Admin installation that stops the installer from attempting to install this file. (This is the first report we have received of this being a problem).

Accordingly, the only way to work around this problem at the moment would be to temporarily grant yourself write access to the shared client folder, install Admin, then remove write access. Alternatively, you might be able to manually copy the trusted application DLL to the shared location, then try installing. The installer will probably not attempt to update the file in this scenario. I could organize to send a copy of the file is you wanted to try this.

Thanks, it will be just as easy to grant myself temporary access to the directory and then remove it again afterwards.

Thanks for the update. I have made an entry in our enhancement database regarding this issue. It will be considered for inclusion in the next service pack.

FYI, I had an issue where I had to re-install the Admin piece after I revoked the R/W rights to the GroupWise client directory and the installation failed again during the DLL copy. You may want your folks working on the installer script to add that to conditions to watch out for on the next go-around.
