Cookies lost when opening new windows from portals

I’ve created a portal that displays one of our university’s secure web sites. The web site uses a session cookie as its security mechanism. There are links on the site that open new windows (target=”_blank” in anchor tags, or window.open in scripts). When the site is displayed in my portal and one of these links is clicked, the cookie is lost.

This isn’t unique to Formativ, I’ve discovered – the same thing happens if I use the webbrowser control in an Office application.

Is there any way to get around this?

Sorry for the delay in our response. Unfortunately this is a security limitation in the MS IE ActiveX. There is no way that you can work around it apart from eliminating pop-up windows from the secure site design.
