Is a user logged in to Novell eDir?

Our users frequently use GroupWise remotely, and therefore will log into their machine as “Workstation Only” even while in the office. This, of course, prohibits any applets from distributing because Formativ does not receive a Config object. The end result is missing applets or even out-dated ones and our users being confused.

I’m not sure on how to approach the problem. (Can’t write an applet, if it never gets to them!)

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to overcome this problem?

If a user is not authenticated to the network, then yes, it certainly presents a challenge for what you wish to achieve. While I’m not sure if it will help, could you potentially use separate LDAP authentication to eDirectory? From our early experience, LDAP is generally slower than NDAP authentication and distribution. However, if it works, it may be an option for your use case.

Otherwise the only way is to login at least periodically to the network or use a solution like ZENworks to distribute your applets.
