I see that you have encryption in the works, but what about password protection? We would like to archive large mailboxes by a date range.

We considered archiving to DVD, but if the user loses the DVD anyone can open the archive.

Can anyone offer a “best practice” when it comes to archiving current users mailboxes. I want it to be easy enough for the user to access his archive, but not so easy that ANYONE can get to it.

Yes, a networked drive would work, but is anyone else doing anything differently?

Can you password protect the archive?

Do you have an ETA yet for the next version?

        Thanks for your enquiry.

The current release of Archive To Go (1.5.0.3) does not provide a way to password-protect archives. The encryption feature (planned for version 2.0) will include password protection inherently.

In the interim you may be able to find an interim solution using folder-encryption software. A tool like this may permit you to encrypt the contents of an archive folder before copying to DVD so that a password is required for accessing that folder on the DVD.

At this stage we expect the next major version of Archive To Go (2.0) to be available during the second half of 2009.

If I have an archive already – version 1.5.3, will I be able to view/take advantage of all the archive to go features of 2.0? Or will I have to re-create the archive? Or Will there be some utility to “upgrade” existing archives?

Given the range of technologies intended for version 2.0, we cannot answer your question with certainty until the product is released. However, it is our objective to maximize backward compatibility.

At this stage we expect you will be able to upgrade your 1.5.0.3 archive for use with a future version of the Archive To Go technologies, although which new features are supported will depend on final development and testing outcomes.
