Frequently Asked Questions

Formativ

General

Can I record Formativ applets like I could record macros with GroupWise 4.1a?

Yes The Formativ applet recording facility gives you a head start with your applet writing by allowing you to record actions within GroupWise, and then convert those actions into applets. You can then run the newly recorded applets as-is, or you can edit and extend them as you please.

Starting Recording

To start recording, select Formativ | Start Recording from the main GroupWise menu. At this point Formativ is recording GroupWise events. Perform the series of actions in GroupWise you wish to record, then stop the recording process as detailed below.

Stopping Recording

To stop recording, select Formativ | Stop Recording from the main GroupWise menu. Formativ stops recording GroupWise events and automatically displays the applet editor. The applet editor contains a new applet based on the actions you recorded in GroupWise. You can now execute this applet, edit it, rename it, and integrate it with the GroupWise client as desired.

Important

GroupWise does not allow Formativ to record every action you can conceivably perform. For this reason, a recorded applet may not play back exactly the same functions as recorded. In some cases, it may not play back at all. In these situations you will have to manually edit the applet to get it to perform the desired action. See the Formativ Language Guide for information on what commands you should use to achieve your goals. (In many cases one or two commands can achieve the same outcome as seven or eight recorded commands.) You should pay particular attention to the methods available in the GroupWise object.
