Operation

Contact Synchronization is not working

In some circumstances, the plug-in cannot see the GroupWise address book entries. The following potential causes have been found:

User-defined Fields Not Working

The plug-in automatically creates a new custom field to the GroupWise address book you are synchronizing called ALWPIUID. This field is used to store a unique identifier for each entry in the address book. We have had reports where contacts synchronization has failed because the plug-in has been unable to create this field.

To see if your GroupWise installation is suffering this problem, perform the following test:

  • Open the appropriate GroupWise address book

  • Select an existing entry and press the information button

  • Press the advanced button. This displays the user-defined properties dialog

  • You should be able to see a field called ALWPIUID. If you can, your GroupWise system should be OK. If not, proceed to the next step

  • Cllick the New button and add a new property called ALWPIUID

  • Add some data to the field and click OK to save the changes

  • Close the address book and re-start GroupWise

When GroupWise re-starts, perform the same steps above up to the point where you should be able to see the ALWPIUID field, and the data you added to that field should still be visible. If you cannot see the ALWPIUID field, or if the data you added is gone, the problem exists.

We do not know of a solution to this problem. Reinstallation of the GroupWise client may assist. If not. please contact your Novell support representative for assistance.

Mail and Fax Configuration Contains Non-Novell Address Book Service

Check your Mail and Fax settings under the control panel for a non-Novell address book service in the mail and fax profile you are currently using. We have noticed that the presence of a non-Novell address book service (such as the Outlook Address Book) makes address book entries 'invisible' to the GroupWise API used by the plug-in to extract address book entries. This can have several ramifications. Because any entries in the GroupWise address book are not visible, they are not synchronized to the handheld computer. If you had previously synchronized address book entries, and at a later date a non-GroupWise address book service was added, the entries would be deleted from your handheld on a subsequent synchronization.
